There are 10 players in the running for the Dafabet Celtic Player of the Year Award, and supporters face a tough choice in voting for their favourite player in what has been another highly successful season for the Hoops.

CHRISTOPHER Jullien’s goal celebration sees the towering Frenchman pretend to rip open his shirt, in a move which mimics Superman.

During the 2019/20 campaign, we saw him do so an impressive seven times… which is not bad going for a central defender.

So good in the air has the 6’5” centre-half proven to be, that he’s become a constant threat from Celtic set-pieces, and is equally adept in clearing aerial balls with his head at the opposite end.

Signed from Ligue 1 side Toulouse last summer, Jullien made his Hoops debut in their 2-0 UEFA Champions League qualifier win over Nomme Kalju in Estonia. From there, the defender has gone on to record 46 appearances for the Scottish champions in all competitions, and, on top of his prowess in front of goal, has managed to assist for his team-mates twice.

Of his goals, Jullien’s best is likely a toss-up between his late matchwinner in a 2-1 win over Lazio in the group-stages of the UEFA Europa League at Paradise, and his trophy-clinching strike in the League Cup final against Rangers at Hampden on December 8, 2019.

Beyond his goals, assists and cultured defending, one of Jullien’s most understated traits is his on-field communication. Whether paired with Kris Ajer, Jozo Simunovic, Nir Bitton or Hatem Abd Hamed in the heart of the Celtic defence, the Frenchman has helped instil an uncompromising degree of calmness and consistency in the Hoops backline since entering Neil Lennon’s starting XI.

At 27-years-old, Jullien has already shown his qualities in spades, and, by his own admission, the best is yet to come.
