THIS season has been life-changing for Greg Taylor and, with all football postponed for the time being, the Hoops full-back is making the most of his time as he aims to continue his progression with the champions.

It’s been a momentous six months for Taylor since signing for Celtic from Kilmarnock at the end of the summer transfer window. The relentless schedule of games for Celtic has barely given the Scotland internationalist any time to pause and reflect on the developments in his career since joining the champions.

“I’ve not been reflecting on the season too much at the moment,” said Taylor in an exclusive interview with the official Celtic website. “I’ve used the time to train and kind of switch off from the intensity of the season. It's game after game in quick succession for us, so this period allows us to mentally reset ourselves for the return.

“As much as we’re all really missing football, this period gives us a chance to mentally step away from it for a wee bit and I think that can be really healthy as well.

“Overall, it’s been a really successful few months for me. It took some time for me to get in the team. I think a lot of people expect players to just walk into a team because they’ve signed, but you’ve got to earn that right and when the opportunity comes about you have to take it.”

The turning point for Taylor this season came after the winter break when he established himself as the first choice left-back in Neil Lennon’s team.

When asked about his highlight of the season, Taylor pointed to the last few months before the postponement came into effect. He highlighted the Dubai training camp as a turning point in the season, and said the team would undertake similar preparations ahead of their return to action.

“It was great getting a good run of games and helping out with some assists as well so it was a really enjoyable period for me," he said. “In terms of highlights this season, the period since returning from Dubai was the most enjoyable. It was the longest that I was in the team.

"That started off with beating St Johnstone 3-0 away. We played great and I had a good game myself. That probably helped me settle into the team and get a run of games. That game was really important for me and for the team as a whole.

“We’ll need a sort of mini pre-season when we go back. The staff have it down to a fine art and they’ll know exactly what we need when we go back. The way the boys have kicked on since Dubai shows how much these sort of training camps can benefit everyone.”
