NEIL Lennon praised his side’s consistency since returning for the second half of the season and insists the character within the squad will prevent any complacency hindering Celtic’s momentum.

Celtic’s impressive 5-0 win over Hearts last night (Wednesday) marked the champions' eighth consecutive win in 2020 and increased their lead at the top of the table to 10 points.

Neil Lennon lauded his players for the way they have been playing recently and said their past successes have done nothing to curb their appetite for more success.

“It was a superb performance,” said the Hoops boss. “We scored five goals without reply. It was different goal scorers in different areas and different types of goals. The overall performance was of a very high standard so we’re very pleased.

“I’m delighted with the amount of goals scored and the chances we’re creating as well. That’s been a real positive this season and to have that goal difference in hand is very pleasing.

“Some of the football this season has been spectacular and we’ve racked some really good scorelines as well.”

Celtic’s 10-point advantage at this point in the season sees the champions in a strong position to successfully defend their league title, however Neil Lennon pointed out there was a lot of football left to play.

The Celtic manager said his players are only focused on the immediate challenge in front of them and pointed to the experience and character in the squad as the driving force for more success.

“There’ll be peaks and troughs along the way,” he said. “There are more games to come and then we have the split so there’s a lot of games to go.

“The players will only want to increase their lead if they can. There’s no complacency and they don’t take anything for granted. When they’re fresh, fit and look hungry they want to stay that way.

“Consistency is a hard habit with people asking questions of you all the time. The motivation is high so it’s a good habit to have and is very pleasing obviously. It shows that they’re still not willing to give anything up and take on all challenges. Whatever style of play they come up against, they’re able to work it out.

“The desire last night to going and look for more goals right up until the final whistle was fantastic. You had Kris Ajer at the end galloping down the right wing. He showed another side to his game as well. He’s been so consistent this season.

“We’re in a good place at the minute, we’re not getting carried away and we’ll take it a game at a time.”
