LEIGH Griffiths has netted four times in six games, and is revelling in the perfect start the Hoops have had to the year so far. On Sunday, the Scottish champions face Clyde at Broadwood in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup, and the 29-year-old striker is determined to progress to the tournament’s next stage.

Following the club’s historic Treble Treble success last season, Celtic are now defending the trophy for a fourth successive year, having overcome Partick Thistle in the tournament’s fourth round last month.

“The manager might make a few changes, but we’ll go into Sunday full of confidence,” said Griffiths. “We need to bring our A-game, because Clyde will be looking to cause a shock. As players, we don’t want to be on the receiving end of a cup shock.

“We’ve played a few games so far this year, and we’ve won every one of them. We need to keep that going into Sunday.”

Griffiths praised striking partner Odsonne Edouard, who he has led the line with in five of the six games this year so far, and said the Frenchman has helped improve his own game during that time. Still, while keen to continue upping his own match sharpness, the striker said he’s most interested in the team’s collective efforts.

He added: “Odsonne and I feed off each other. He likes to go short and I like to go play on the shoulder of the last defender. Our partnership has been working really well and long may that continue for both of us.

“He’s a great player, and his free-kick was unbelievable, I don’t think I’ve seen anybody hit a ball like that. He’s got a weird technique where he gets whip and power on them. If he keeps putting them in the back of the net, then I’m happy.

“I’ve still got a bit to go fitness-wise, but as long as I’m contributing to the team and helping them win then that’s only going to help me. Whenever I’m selected, I’ll give my best. But it’s not about me, it’s about the team getting three points every game. We take each game as it comes and we’ve got the chance to be in the hat for the next round on Sunday.”
