NEIL Lennon described Celtic’s 4-0 win against Motherwell as spectacular and said his side’s performance was the best he has seen so far in the second half of the season.

Celtic took the lead early on in the first half at Fir Park with Odsonne Edouard opening the scoring. Third place Motherwell have played well at home this season and Steve Robinson’s side showed that as they fought back during the remainder of the first half.

The champions moved up through the gears in the second half as Leigh Griffiths doubled the lead shortly after the restart. Edouard continued his scintillating form with his 24th goal of the season to make it 3-0 before Callum McGregor rounded off the scoring with Celtic’s 4th.

Speaking after the game Neil Lennon was full of praise for how his side played in the second half as Celtic recorded their sixth successive win since returning from the winter break.

“It was a spectacular second half performance against a very good side who caused us a few problems in the first half,” said the manager.

“The quality of our play and the motivation, hunger and desire and quality of the goals was spectacular. All credit to the players, it’s a magnificent win and it’s not often you come here and win 4-0. Motherwell are a good side and well coached but I can’t speak highly enough of my coaching staff and players. They’ve started the second half of the season brilliantly.

“I thought we played really well against St Johnstone in the first half but when you consider the opposition tonight and where we were then this was probably the best we’ve played since returning. The players are in a good place.”

Griffiths and Edouard continued their blossoming partnership up front with the two strikers linking up well together to pierce open the Well defence.

“I’ve played with good strikers and, at times, it’s telepathic. Those two have football intelligence in abundance. Leigh Griffiths is a natural centre forward. He can get better and fitter but he has natural footballing intelligence. The two of them linking together doesn’t surprise me at all.

He’s working hard at his game and I just hope he stays on top of things now because he’s an assets for us now, there’s no question of that.

“Odsonne’s just special. When he’s on that form he’ a joy to watch. It was a great finish for the first goal. His link up play with Leigh was very creative and good to watch. He’s just an outstanding footballer all-round and he’s so important to us at the minute.”
