THE Hoops made it six-out-of-six in 2020 with a 4-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park this evening (Wednesday), as Neil Lennon’s men maintained their seven-point lead at the top of the Premiership.

Goals from Leigh Griffiths, Callum McGregor and a double from Odsonne Edouard secured maximum points on the road in Celtic’s third away game on the bounce, with a range of fine performances all over the pitch.

Here, we look at five talking points from an entertaining night at Fir Park.

FOUR OF THE BEST
Another away encounter, another four sublime goals from the Scottish champions. Edouard’s opener come off the back of some wonderful link-up play between he and McGregor; Griffiths’ 51st minute strike capped off another fine move; as did McGregor’s world-class 75th minute volley; and Edouard’s second, a free-kick from 20-yards, was breath-taking.

COMPLETE PACKAGE
Dynamite on the ball, and equally incisive off it, Callum McGregor dominated in midfield this evening. Not only did he score one of the best strikes of the season, and assist for Edouard’s opener and Griffith’s goal in the second period, he was instrumental in just about every attacking and defensive move from start to finish. Moreover, playing with five in midfield affords the tireless 26-year-old more scope to roam as play dictates, which in turn lets him affect play in wide and central areas. Superb is an understatement.

LOST FOR WORDS
Manager Neil Lennon said he’s running out of superlatives to describe on-form forward Odsonne Edouard, and his fine firing form is why he’s featured so many times in this column. The scorer of tonight’s opening and final goals, the 21-year-old raised his tally for the season so far to 24, which, coupled with 16 assists for his team-mates, underscores just how important he is to the Scottish champions in their quest for more silverware this campaign.

LEIGH SET FREE
Speaking of Leigh Griffiths, his form in 2020 has also impressed – the striker having now hit four goals in six games since the turn of the year. The 29-year-old has stressed a desire to up his numbers since returning to Neil Lennon’s starting XI, which he appears dead-set on doing, much to the delight of the travelling Hoops fans in Fir Park this evening. Callum McGregor did ever so well to create Griffiths’ 51st minute strike with a blistering run and cut-back, and the forward made no mistake 12-yards from goal. Denied a brace by the crossbar in another great performance in green and white.

BIG HAND FOR FORSTER
While he didn’t have too much to do during tonight’s 2-0 win, Fraser Forster pulled off a miraculous save to deny Rolando Aarons on the 43rd minute. Not only did this ensure the Hoops went into the break in front, it underlined the towering 6’7” stopper’s unwavering concentration, and his ability to make top-class stops and keep his side on top.
