NEIL Lennon was impressed with Ismaila Soro’s first training session as a Celtic player and said the Ivorian will provide added strength to the Hoops’ midfield.

The manager finalised his second signing of the transfer window yesterday (Monday) with Soro completing his move to Celtic after passing his medical last week. The 21-year-old trained with his new team-mates for the first time today, and his new boss was pleased with his first day as a Celt.

“It’s nice to see him out there," said Neil Lennon. "It’s been a week or so since he passed his medical and he’s come through training absolutely fine.

“He’ll bring a bit of quality and support in the midfield area. He’s had a good career so far and has played in some tough leagues. He’s come from a team who, while they’re not the top team in Israel, he’s stood out by a distance with his performances there.

“He has good potential. He can drive, hold up the ball, pass it and break up play, so I’m hoping he can bring all those attributes to the team. He’ll add strength to the midfield so, at the minute, we’re definitely stronger.

“We’ll have to see what his condition is like, but he was playing up until the end of the year there. He was training on his own for a week or two, so he may need some adaption before we decide to use him.”

The Celtic manager was also asked about the possibility of further signings before the transfer window closes at the end of the week.

“If I don’t do anything else I’ll be happy,” he said. “I have a great squad with real quality in it. We’ve got a couple of players in and we’ve streamlined the squad a little bit. Patryk Klimala will add a little bit of firepower and pace to the attack which is what we're needing.

“Nick’s working very diligently in the background but there’s only a few days left and it’s a very difficult thing to do in January. We’ve got two good players and if it stop there then great.”

Neil Lennon also gave an update on Jeremie Frimpong, who was taken off during Celtic’s 3-1 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park last week.

“He’s seeing a specialist today so we’ll know the extent of the injury after that,” he said. “He’s been fantastic and you miss his energy, his speed and his quality on the ball, so the sooner he gets back fit the better.”
