CELTIC’S 2020 vision will be to win the two other domestic trophies up for grabs this season, to go with the League Cup that was retained back in December, which would give the club an extraordinary Quadruple Treble.

There is also a last 32 Europa League tie against FC Copenhagen to look forward to, and Neil Lennon’s side will be aiming to progress as far as they can in this competition.

The decade just past has been Celtic’s most successful, with 18 trophies garnered over that time, and the aim is to start the new decade with further silverware success.

And in the first View of the new decade, we can look back with satisfaction in each instance with the three trophies won in 2019 taking the tally to a magnificent 18 for the 2010s.

Indeed, from the Scottish Cup win of May 22, 2011 to the recent League Cup victory, all 18 pieces of silverware have actually been won within a time-frame of just eight years and 199 days – that’s some going.

In this week’s Celtic View, war-torn decade of the 1940s apart, we take a look back at each of Celtic's full decades and how successful, or otherwise, they have been – here is just a selection.

THIRTEEN TROPHIES – THE 1960s & 1970s

It should come as no surprise that the 1960s and 1970s are up there in the silver-laden decades and the current era is now on a par with them. The amazing thing about the four championships, three Scottish Cups, five League Cups and one European Cup of the ‘60s is that they were all crammed into the half-decade from when Jock Stein arrived in 1965. He could also take credit for the vast majority of the seven titles, five Scottish Cups and one League Cup won by the Hoops in the 1970s before Billy McNeill took over

FOURTEEN TROPHIES –THE 2000s

Up until this current run of the 2010s, the Noughties was the Hoops’ most successful decade with 14 trophies lifted. It started off with a bit of a consolation prize as Kenny Dalglish’s team lifted the 1999/00 League Cup in a season that promised so much more. However, the arrival of Martin O’Neill delivered the first treble since 1969. The Irishman was followed by Gordon Strachan and by the end of the decade the Celts had reined in six titles, four Scottish Cups and four League Cups – as well as coming so close to adding the UEFA Cup.

EIGHTEEN TROPHIES –THE 2010s

What can we say except that the year 2010 was the only one of the decade in which Celtic didn’t win at least one of the domestic trophies up for grabs – and, of course, over the past three years they have won all three each time around. Indeed, this year for instance, the Celts won as many trophies in eight months as they did for the entire duration of the 1990s. The haul is nothing short of incredible with eight league titles being added to by five Scottish Cup wins and five League Cup victories to reach the magical decade table-topping historical figure of EIGHTEEN. Included in that run are the Trinity of Trebles, eight-in-a-row, the Invincible season, Celtic’s 100th trophy, 69 domestic games unbeaten, four League Cups in a row and TEN domestic trophies in a row. Who would have thought that when we lifted that 100th trophy in November 2016, we would be celebrating the 109th little more than 36 months later? Here’s to the 110th and hopefully a successful 2020s for us all.
