SCOTT Brown said the three points Celtic secured in dramatic fashion against Hamilton Accies was more important than the performance, but he insisted the champions would be back to their best in the upcoming games.

Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to two points with a 2-1 win against Hamilton at Paradise on Wednesday night. The visitors almost caused an upset when they equalised in the 90th minute, but Brown emerged as the goal hero in injury-time when he scored his fourth goal of the season.

Brown admitted Celtic were not at their best in the game, but maintained the result was what mattered most.

“I don’t know what I’m doing up there half the time,” said the Hoops captain when asked about his goal. “I got a bit lucky with the touch with my left foot and then, somehow, it managed to find the back of the net in slow motion.

“Three points is three points. It wasn’t the best performance today by us but we knew that. Hamilton did really well. They stopped us from creating chances and stopped us from playing, so fair play to them.

“Any result for us at home is always pleasing. We got the three points at the end of the day, I know it wasn’t pretty and it was late on but it’s still three points for us.”

Paradise erupted when Brown’s left-footed strike across goal found its way over the line, and the captain celebrated in front of the fans with his trademark outstretched arms. The 34-year-old said he appreciated every opportunity to play in front of the fans at Paradise, but added Celtic must play better to continue their excellent winning run.

“I cherish every single moment of being here, playing in front of 60,000 fans at Celtic Park, especially being a little bit older,” said Brown. “You have to take all of that in. We’re doing really well at home and really well in the league. We have 11 straight wins and we need to make sure we play better if we want to win games here.”
