NEIL Lennon was delighted with his team’s performance in their 2-0 win against Motherwell after such a quick turnaround from their midweek heroics in Italy. Celtic returned to league action less than 72 hours on from their 2-1 win against Lazio in Rome in the Europa League.

The Scottish champions showed no signs of fatigue as they comfortably took all three points at Paradise to remain top of the league. Neil Lennon was vocal in his praise for his side’s display as he shed light on the lack of recovery Celtic had coming into the game.

“I’m delighted with the result today,” said the Celtic manager. “It’s another good performance, another clean sheet and another good win. I thought we could have won the game by more.

“I don’t remember Motherwell having a shot on target during the game. That speaks volumes about the way the team are playing. They arrived back in Glasgow at four o’clock on Friday morning and they’ve gone out and performed again today.

“I’m absolutely thrilled, and really proud of them, not just the ones who played today but the whole squad during this round of games. They’ve been absolutely sensational.”

Jonny Hayes started the game in place of the injured Boli Bolingoli, and Neil Lennon singled out his fellow countryman for his contributions to the team.

“Jonny knows his role within the parameters of the squad." said the Hoops boss. "His fitness levels are fantastic, his enthusiasm for the game is fantastic and his game intelligence is improving all the time. I thought he was wonderful today, and I thought he had a great game as the game went on on Thursday.

“He’s been a real plus for me in terms of what we’re asking him to. Today was probably his best game and he’s played in some big games for me. If you look at the cup final, semi-final, Rangers here in March, he’s not let me down.

I’m delighted with him. He’s popular amongst the players. He’s shown a real reliability and quality. He started the game off really well. I think he put about three or four good crosses in early on. That’ exactly what we wanted from him. He can play wing-back or left back. I’m so happy with him and for him.”
