SCOTT Bain said his new four-year deal with Celtic will give him the platform to continue improving as a goalkeeper thanks to the calibre of coaches and players around him. The 27-year-old stopper finalised his contract extension with Celtic last week and will remain at the club until at least the summer of 2023.

Bain impressed on his Hoops debut which came in a 3-2 Glasgow derby win against Rangers at Ibrox in March 2018, and he has continued to develop under the watchful eye of experienced goalkeeping coach, Stevie Woods, and his fellow goalkeepers.

“I love it here, it’s a huge club with great players and great staff,” he said. “It’s a great place to come and train every day. I’m going to be here for four years and I need to be patient and see what happens. Football changes quickly and you can see that in every aspect of it. It’s a case of performances. All I can do is try and play the way the manager wants me to play.

“It’s great to train with guys like Fraser, Craigy and Woodsy every day and take what you can from them. They’re top standard and to learn from them and improve is great. This is a fantastic place to come and work every day."

Bain has been out with injury since mid-August when he suffered a hand injury, but the Celtic keeper said he has now almost fully recovered.

“I’ve been back for a week or two now so trying to get back up to that position I was in before,” he said. “Right now, it’s all about getting as fit as possible, as sharp as possible and then we go from there.

"Coming back from injury I’m looking to see what I can do to affect his decision on who plays. It’s important for any player to be playing regularly. Being here and training with this standard of player improves you every day.”
