NEIL Lennon’s Celtic take to the field once more tonight (Wednesday) intent on maintaining a thrilling run of performances and winning scorelines, with each of the last three games all telling their own stories in the recent run of success.

There was the 6-0 win over Ross County when a double-figure scoreline was within the realms of possibility considering the goalscoring opportunities Celtic created. That was followed by victory over Lazio in the UEFA Europa League, when the Hoops overturned a 1-0 deficit to beat the Serie A side 2-1 in the most dramatic of fashions.

The there was the final segment of the triple treat, Sunday’s trip to Pittodrie where Celtic completely bossed proceedings against Aberdeen with four first-half goals to no reply delivering the final scoreline.

Now, it’s the turn of St Mirren as the Hoops aim for a fantastic foursome by adding the Paisley side to recent scalps.

However, despite the Buddies currently sitting 10th in the table, just a point above bottom place, Neil Lennon feels that gives a false impression of the threat St Mirren can offer.

The Irishman said: “They’re not cut adrift, as although they’re not scoring many, they’re not conceding many either. They are well-organised and they try to play. Whether they try to do that tonight is another thing, but Jim Goodwin’s been a steadier influence since he’s came in.”

The Hoops manager added: “They try and make it as difficult as possible for you. We have our own targets in terms of playing at home, making life very difficult for the opposition and we want that momentum that we’ve picked up the last few games to carry on tonight.

“We expect the game to be difficult as we expect St Mirren to fight and we have to be ready for it.”

Included in the momentum-building over recent games was Celtic’s previous midweek meeting – last Thursday’s 2-1 win over Italian side, Lazio – and the manager is looking for the same commitment and attitude, that also shaped and inspired Sunday’s 4-0 win over Aberdeen, to come to the fore against St Mirren tonight.

He said: “That was a real statement of intent for the team to give them belief that they can go toe-to-toe with a big quality side and beat them. It’s a real feather in the cap, you can see what it meant for them psychologically with the performance at a difficult venue on Sunday.”

He added: “We’ve got a lot of games coming up so it’s important to keep an eye on the fatigue element if there is any. The way the team’s playing, we are in a great place at the minute psychologically, and I would imagine they want to get back out on the pitch as soon as possible.

“It was a fantastic performance at the weekend which capped off a great week, and now we go again.”
