MOHAMED Elyounoussi said the team spirit within the Celtic squad played a part in the 4-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday, and he believes there is plenty more to come as the understanding between the players continues to strengthen.

Celtic returned to action in the Scottish Premiership three days on from their impressive 2-1 win over Lazio in the Europa League with a dominant display over Aberdeen at Pittodrie. Neil Lennon’s side floored the Dons with four first-half goals and continued to dominate them in the second period despite not adding to their lead.

Elyounoussi scored his fourth Celtic goal with the final goal of the afternoon just before half-time. Reflecting on the performance, the Norwegian international said the mood within the team was at an all-time high off the back of the last three results.

“The confidence and team spirit is really good at the moment,” said Elyounoussi. “We enjoyed Thursday and we enjoyed the win over Aberdeen, so everyone is positive.

“We wanted to do our best to please everyone. We created some chances and scored four of them as quickly as possible. We wanted to score more but Aberdeen are a good team and they fought well in the second half.

“It was a professional performance from the team. We knew our game-plan and followed it well. We scored some nice goals and in the second half controlled the game. Offensively we had a lot of good combinations. Tom Rogic came in and was brilliant against Aberdeen and he found me for my goal.”

The 25-year-old has now made eight appearances for Celtic, with four goals to his name, and in that time has noticed the improvements within the squad as the newer players strengthen their understanding with their team-mates.

“I think the team is getting better because the relationship between the players on the pitch is always strengthening,” he said. “The relations are important and when you know where players are going to be then it is a lot easier to play one-twos or play through. We will get better with more games."
