CELTIC’S next home league game, the St Mirren match on Wednesday, October 30 is being billed as a Hallowe’en special, and if Jeremie Frimpong plays, it could well turn out to be fright night for the Buddies.

The Dutch youngster has played in only two games so far but the Celts have come up with tricks and treats in both of those matches, bewitching both Partick Thistle in the League Cup and Ross County in the SPFL with scores of 5-0 and 6-0 respectively.

The new Bhoy even came off in the 79th minute of the Thistle match, meaning that the spellbinding Celts have scored a goal on average every 15 minutes Frimpong has been on the pitch!

The Celtic support have certainly been lapping up the goal-fest and the 18-year-old has been enjoying the praise from the fans, his team-mates and manager, Neil Lennon.

Speaking at Celtic Park today, Frimpong said: “I’m enjoying it a lot. It’s everything I could ask for, at a young age as well, so I’m really grateful. I’m going to keep working hard. I want to have praise every single time, but I'm going to keep working hard to keep making the fans proud, my team-mates proud and the manager proud.”

Frimpong’s Man of the Match display against Thistle was followed by determined work on the training pitch that caught the eye of the Celtic manager, with the Irishman admitting that is was hard to leave him out against Ross County – even with the experienced Hatem Abd Elhamed and Moritz Bauer also vying for the right-back spot.

The young Celt got the shout and put in a memorable performance that was contesting both doube-scorers, Odsonne Edouard and Mohamed Elyounoussi, for the Man of the Match award against the Staggies.

He said: “When I first heard that I was going to start, I was really happy. It was my first league game and it was all that I could ask for. I went out there and just played how I normally play, so hopefully there’s many more to come

“There was one training session when we played 11-a-side and the manager said it was fantastic. I was just waiting to go home and he told me to be ready. So I just had this great smile on my face and I was thinking, ‘Here we go!’”

Frimpong arrived on transfer deadline day from Manchester City and was very much seen as one for the future, but his displays at Lennoxtown have seen him fast-tracked to the first team and his assist for James Forrest’s goal on Saturday was a particular delight.

He said: “I got the chances. When I first came here I knew I would have to work really, really hard, but it came so soon, so I’m grateful for that. That was a really nice feeling assisting – and winning 6-0 - it was really good.

“In training, I always work hard and I'm going to keep doing that. The manager has been seeing that, and the players have been seeing that as well. I'm just going to keep doing that and if I don't get picked, I’ll just have to be patient and see what happens.”

The Dutch Bhoy has flourished under Neil Lennon’s tuition and the youngster has pinpointed one particular improvement.

He said: “Sometimes we work on my crosses, and that’s really improved because, when I first came, I would get there, but my end product wouldn’t be that good.”

The Celtic support, though, are definitely pleased with the end product – and that means the world to Frimpong. He said: “The fans are always great to me, so that's really good.”
