JAMES Forrest said he and his team-mates were delighted to continue their winning streak in the league and attributed the strong form to the quality throughout the Hoops squad.

Celtic extended their 100 per cent winning record in the league with a 3-1 win against Kilmarnock at Paradise. An Odsonne Edouard brace, along with Ryan Christie’s 10th goal of the season, rounded off an impressive win for Neil Lennon's side just three days on from their Europa League draw against Rennes.

James Forrest provided the assist for Edouard’s first goal and was unfortunate not to add his name to the scoresheet with a string of chances.

Speaking to the media after the game, Forrest said it was a good team performance from Celtic and admitted he was disappointed not to add to his seven goals so far this season.

“The manager said right from the start that the coaches would know within the first five or 10 minutes if we were at it," he said. "When they scored we just kept going and played the same way. We scored three but could have got more.

“I don’t get many headers and my wee brother scored one yesterday, so that was in my head. I’ve scored one header, a header against Kilmarnock at home from two yards out. I don’t get many headers so I was a bit gutted not to score.

“Their goalkeeper was up for it right from the start and made a good few saves. He made us work for the goals. When you play Kilmarnock home and away it’s always going to be tough but we played well and the boys enjoyed it.

“It was a really good team performance. We were creating a lot of chances, we could have scored more and I’m gutted not to get on the scoresheet. But all the boys were buzzing with the three points and the way we played.”

Forrest attributed Celtic’s strong form since the start of the season to the competition for places and said the team would now look to continue that in the League Cup against Partick Thistle on Wednesday.

“We have a big squad and everyone’s fighting to get in the team," he said. "That keeps the ones who are playing on their toes. It shows the depth and strength of the squad.

“The manager said before the game that when you’re playing well and the team’s doing well you want to keep the momentum going. We’re on a good run, we had a good win on Sunday and we’re back here on Wednesday. That’s another big game, it’s the quarter-final of the cup so we just need to get ready and go again.”
