NEIL Lennon said he anticipated a stiff test tomorrow night (Thursday) against Rennes but the Celtic manager pointed out his side were coming into the game on form and have the added benefit of European experience.

Celtic arrived in France earlier this evening ahead of their Europa League Group Stage opener tomorrow night against Rennes.

Rennes pose a significant challenge to the Scottish champions and, like Celtic, have started their own domestic season well. They defeated PSG last month and currently sit second in Ligue 1 after five games.

Neil Lennon acknowledged the quality of Celtic’s opponents and said his side would need to be at their best to get off to a good start in Group E.

“We know Rennes have had a superb start to their own domestic seasonal and we know how difficult the tie will be,” said the Celtic manager. “We’re on good form, we’re looking forward to it and it’s exciting for not only the new players but the senior players.

“We’re very excited about being in the competition and the quality of opponents we’re going to play in the group. There’s a lot of glamour in the group and we’ve earned the right to be here by playing some very good football but nothing is guaranteed.

“We’re very motivated for the game, we know how difficult this test is going to be and we’re always looking to improve our record away from home in Europe. This is the next test for us and is one we’re warry of but we’re also looking forward to it.”

Celtic have kept clean-sheets in their previous two games and will look to continue that trend tomorrow night. Neil Lennon was full of praise for his defence and said his side’s recent performances, coupled with the experience in the squad, would be important against Rennes.

“I can’t ask any more from what they’re giving at the minute,” said Neil Lennon. “They’re keeping clean sheets in the last few games. We’ve won away from home with an outstanding performance in Sweden.

“This is a real stiff examination. Rennes are a good side, technically proficient and well organised. It’ll be a good atmosphere and one we’re looking forward to playing in.

“It’s a little bit of a different system from what we’re used to playing against. They use their system and formation very well. We’re away from home which is a disadvantage but we have good experience in the squad with European and international experience and we hope that stands us in good stead for tomorrow.”
