LEIGH Griffiths marked his first Premiership start of the year with a signature free-kick goal, as Celtic bagged five goals from five different scorers at Fir Park. The Hoops have now scored 12 times in just two league games so far this season, and the 28-year-old striker has been delighted with his side’s contributions all over the pitch.

The impressive 5-2 win came off the back of a well-contested 1-1 European draw in midweek, and Neil Lennon’s men now turn their attention to their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round return leg with CFR Cluj at Paradise on Tuesday.

“The fact that we’ve scored 12 goals in two league games says we’ve got scorers throughout the team,” said Griffiths. “It was such a composed finish from Kris Ajer, and he was brilliant. Likewise, the boys coming off the bench, Ryan, Odsonne, to score is brilliant.

“Going forward, we look like a threat every time. As long as we keep doing that and creating chances, we’ve got goals throughout this team. As long as we play on the front foot, we’ve got the talent to put the ball in the back of the net.”

Griffiths said that Fir Park is a difficult ground to travel to, and although the home side took the lead on 12 minutes, it was his trademark set-piece that put the Hoops in front with four minutes of the first half remaining.

The forward was impressed by the efforts of right-back goalscorer Kris Ajer on the day, and was likewise pleased to get himself on the scoresheet.

He added: “The sky is the limit for Kris. He can play right-back, centre-half, he’s so composed, and for such a young lad as well, the world is at his feet. As you saw against Motherwell, he doesn’t put a foot wrong. He makes four or five strides and he’s in the opposition penalty box!

“This is a difficult place to come to, Motherwell are at home and will always want to press you, which they did from the start. It took us about 10-15 minutes to settle, but that speaks to the character of the team.

“I spoke to the boys beforehand and said that if I get a free-kick on that side, I’ll try and move it across the goalie. It was a little bit of a daisy-cutter but they all count at the end of the day.

“I’m still a bit away from peak fitness, but the more I can start and the more I can contribute to the team, the fitter I’ll become. I’ll be ready to contribute on Tuesday if I’m called upon.”
