HAVING seen off FK Sarajevo and Nomme Kluj in the first and second qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League, Celtic now face CFR Cluj of Romania. The first leg of the tie takes place away from home this Wednesday, and James Forrest is determined to bring a positive result back to Paradise the following week.

Now, with the domestic campaign underway in earnest, the 28-year-old stressed that concentration is key at this stage of the season, and the Hoops are expecting a difficult game on the road.

He said: “We’ve played a few European games, but now with the league having started and the League Cup starting early, we want to make sure we do well in every tournament we play in.

“We know that going to places like Cluj is difficult, and these games are always really hard games. We know it’ll be very difficult and we won’t take it lightly. The staff leading up to the games help the team out by analysing the opposition, and over the next few days we’ll get to know them a little bit more.”

Forrest reckons the Hoops’ impressive 7-0 league win over St Johnstone sets the team up well for Wednesday, but said they expect a different challenge against a very successful side.

He added: “Whenever you beat any team, you enjoy it. On Saturday we were ruthless. We kept creating chances and it was one of those days where the goals just kept coming. Going away to Cluj will be very a very difficult game, but we have the players in the squad to do well and get a good result.

“Every game has its own different stamp, different players, different oppositions. In the next couple of days, we’ll be focusing on Cluj and hopefully we can get it right.

“It was disappointing not to qualify for the Champions League last year, but the buzz around the place, everyone wants to be involved in that, and now everyone in the dressing room is desperate to get in. We need to take it one game at a time and hopefully we can get the results we need.

“There have been some really hard games for us over the years in Europe, especially away from home. We need to make sure we get a positive result on Wednesday to take home Celtic Park.

"The boys know what they need to do, and hopefully we can do that. We’ll look to score over there, but bringing a positive result back to Celtic Park is crucial.”
