CELTIC returned to action following their summer break to record an emphatic 3-1 victory over Rangers. Kathleen McGovern, Sarah Ewens and Kelly Clark were all on the scoresheet for the Hoops in front of a large crowd at the K-Park Academy in East Kilbride, while goalkeeper Chloe Logan made her first competitive start since returning to the club.

From the first whistle, it was Celtic who were on the front foot, and they opened the scoring after just 15 minutes. Ewens floated in a corner which found its way to McGovern, and she steered a low shot into the Rangers net.

Five minutes later, the Hoops had their first of two penalty claims waved away, with Rachel Donaldson dancing into the box before appearing to be brought down under the challenge of a Rangers defender.

Just a minute later, Ewens made it 2-0 to the Hoops after she was played through on goal. The Celtic player coolly rounded the Rangers keeper and slotted the ball home.

Four minutes into the second half and it was 3-0 to Celtic. This time it was captain Kelly Clark who headed home, again from a Ewens delivery.

Rangers reduced the deficit just three minutes later through Brogan Hay, but it was the Hoops who remained in control of the game.

McGovern had a goal disallowed for offside on 65 minutes, while the Hoops also had another penalty claim waved away late in the game.

And while there was to be no further scoring in the game, it was an impressive performance from Celtic, who are now second in the SWPL league ahead of their game against league leaders, Glasgow City on August 18.
