juarez already looking forward to derby date

Newsroom Staff
EFRAIN Juarez is aiming to make a good impression at the Emirates Cup this weekend. The Mexican internationalist made his debut last Wednesday against Braga and was as disappointed as every Celtic player and fan at the result.

But the 22-year-old is determined to succeed, and he’s looking forward to the season ahead, including the chance to play in the world-famous Glasgow derby.

““In Mexico we have El Clasico, the big derby between America and Chivas,” he explained. “Pumas, my old club, also has a big rivalry with America, and those games are also regarded as a Clasico.

“In these matches you just don’t play for the three points or whatever you are playing for. The stakes are much, much higher than that. The pride, the bragging rights, your club reputation are on the line.

“Your aim is to make your fans proud and happy, because you know that, if you lose, people will be hurting, people will cry, people will have a very bad week.”

Celtic are taking part in the prestigious Emirates Cup tournament this weekend, playing French side, Lyon, on Saturday, and then taking on hosts, Arsenal, on Sunday.

And Neil Lennon will be hoping his side can do well in such a top-quality tournament, which also includes Italian giants, AC Milan.

If you’re heading to Emirates Stadium this weekend, you can read the full, in-depth interview with Efrain Juarez in the Souvenir Programme, priced at £5 and available around the ground.
